Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptom

Rheumatoid arthritis is one of the most debilitating forms of arthritis. RA can cause joints to hurt and throb on a daily bases and can even lead to deformity of the joints effected. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory autoimmune condition that signals to the immune system to attack the joints and joint tissue, treating the body tissue, namely the synovium, as an infection. It can lead to the destruction of your joints and even bone loss. The inflammatory condition can lead to the wearing away of the joint surface. This is a systemic illness that often affects extra-articular tissues all over the body including the heart, lungs, blood vessels, muscles, and the skin. It usually affects many joints, polyarticular, at the same time and during the course of affliction.

Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms can make even the simplest of chores or activities painful and torturous. It is three to five times more common in women than in men. Smokers are four times more likely to develop RA than non-smokers. It is also more common in Native Americans and less common among the Afro-Caribbean populace. While it can strike children, it is most likely to strike adults between the ages of 20 and 50, but can occur up to the age of 80. Some patients limit their mobility or refuse to use limbs altogether because the pain can be so severe. Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms include soft-tissue swelling and inflammation of various joints at the same time. The joints are typically first affected asymmetrically and as the disease advances it seems to spread symmetrically. The pain is generally worse in the morning and accompanied by stiffness of the joints that can last for over an hour but can subside with the use of the diseased joints.

Medical professionals are puzzled by the cause of RA, but it has been thought that the culprit is infection, though the reason or cause is not defined. Some studies seem to suggest it can come from food allergies, Rubella, Mycoplasma, Epstein-Barr virus, Erysipelothrix, or a host of other viruses, nothing conclusive to date, though.

While there is no cure for rheumatoid arthritis its affects can be reduced with appropriate treatment. Chiropractic therapies have had much success in treating and alleviating rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. Studies have shown that with a strict discipline to protect the joints and some life style changes this condition can be controlled. Diet, emotional and physical stress can aggravate this disease. A Swedish study has concluded that alcohol consumption lowers the risk of the onset of this dreadful disease.
